haiku | a night kitchen

now and now and now
footsteps in the snow
behind me

Late night edamame at the sink —
Left with black salt on my lips.

Watching the sky not sure
if it wants to be rain or snow

Hurrying to write about last night’s snowfall
before the last of it melts.

Street lined with flaming red maples
going out one by one.

Lunch —
arugula falling to the table around me

Watching the robin
in the rain
and the worm
watch me

Escaping the mid-day rain
huddled around chai and words
